A Room Transformed
Initially hired to introduce color into this rather drab room, the assignment evolved into a design project, which totally transformed the space.
There was a dramatic high ceiling in the family room with no color and hanging fabric as window coverings. We introduced a vibrant red/rustic color to emphasize the dramatic wall and to warm the space. For further visual appeal, white shutters were added which made the windows 'pop' against the darker wall. The surrounding walls were then painted in a more neutral tone.

The room also had a huge hole in the family room which the builder called a 'media niche.' It was in a corner of the room that made placement for equipment difficult. The client asked for recommendations that would make the space more usable. I suggested doing a custom built-in for additional shelving and storage with the surrounding walls painted in a soft beige.

The items place on the shelf helped to lower the surrounding high ceilings. Set alongside the fireplace this became a new focal point for their family room.
